Culoir

location: Romania, Brasov

The freedom of space was our main goal.
It is an extension of an existing green forest and one of the few who managed to keep its function over time.
We have a significant sloped area, actually quite difficult to explore. Our goal was to improve the connections
with the existing alleys in a way accessible to any category of people. A natural environment like this requires
a discreet intervention meant to serve strictly the necessity of a walk in the park. The most comfortable way to
explore any space is on a flat, horizontal pattern. In order to obtain this effect we followed on each level a
single topographical line without changing the natural structure of the ground. In our case we used 5 curves meant
to link important existing alleys. The result is a surprising pattern of different shaped circulation.

Our structure for the organisation of space is a regular grid that indicates the precise position of the trees and
the urban furniture. It also makes the irregular shape of the circulation more obvious. This effect is very close
to the atmosphere created by the natural corridors found in the nearby forest. The higher you go the more light
you find. There is a transition from a dense tree plantation to an almost empty, picnic area where you can enjoy
the beautiful views over the mountains and the fortress. The diversity of tree species is selected in a way that
you never lose the studied effect even if the amount of green is changing.
